13 Zimbabwean districts to be affected by Tropical Storm Ana

Zimbabwe’s thirteen districts are set to be affected by a tropical storm Ana. The storm is expected to hit Mozambican shores on January 24, 2022.
“We have been warned that there is a forecast of strong winds in Manicaland, Mash East and Mash West starting from today. Heavy rains are expected. Let’s all be careful,” confirmed Mr Nick Mangwana on his Twitter handle.
The national emergency services subcommittee met this morning to deliberate on the state of preparedness and response to tropical depression Ana . The tropical storm Ana is in Mozambique and it will affect 13 districts spreading across Manicaland, Masvingo , Mashonaland East and Central provinces.
Mr James Ngoma, Meteorological Services Department Head of Forecast informed the panel that the storm, which will be associated with strong winds and heavy rains, will affect Mutare, Chipinge and Nyanga.
“Disaster response mechanisms such as setting up of evacuation centres in Chipinge and Chimanimani have been put in place by the government, ” said Nathan Nkomo, Civil Protection Unit Director.
Meanwhile, the public is urged to stay calm and also be careful especially those living in and around disaster-prone areas.
It is advisable to identify higher ground where people can temporarily run to in the event of flooding, while emergency services are summoned.
