Mutare Woman Arrested After Assaulting Infant in Viral Video

A 30-year-old woman from Mutare has been arrested after a video surfaced, showing her assaulting her 10-month-old daughter with a stick and forcing the child to crawl.

The 20-second video captures the woman ordering the crying, helpless baby to stay silent as she continues the abuse.

Confirming the arrest, the Zimbabwe Republic Police stated, “The ZRP confirms the arrest of a 30-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting her 10-month-old baby girl with a stick. This happened in Temberere Village in Zimunya, Mutare, on October 11.”

The case drew public outrage after the disturbing footage went viral on social media. Following her arrest, the woman confessed to the crime in another video.

In a separate incident, Chivhu police arrested 21-year-old Omega Chemhere for allegedly concealing the birth of a stillborn baby. Chemhere is accused of disposing of the baby’s body in a bin at a local school on October 9, 2024.
